Watch: Romney Booed During Speech at Utah GOP Convention

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) did not receive a warm welcome during his speech at Utah Republican Party convention.

On Saturday, Romney addressed the crowd of 2,100 delegates but was met with loud boos. The Utah senator said, “Now you know me as a person as someone who says what he thinks. And I don’t hide the fact that I wasn’t a fan of our last president’s character issues.”

The boos grew louder as Romney made his reference to former President Donald Trump, to which he responded, “Aren’t you embarrassed?”

Watch the video below:

Romney, who scorched Trump in 2016, had a contentious relationship with the former president.

In 2020 and 2021 he voted to convict Trump on articles of impeachment, the only Republican senator to vote in favor of conviction both years. In both impeachment trials, Trump was ultimately acquitted by the Senate.

After he voted last year to convict Trump on the charge of abuse of power, Trump lashed out as he said, “Had failed presidential candidate [Mitt Romney] devoted the same energy and anger to defeating a faltering Barack Obama as he sanctimoniously does to me, he could have won the election.”

He also shared a video calling Romney a “secret Democrat asset.”

The Utah Republican Party also tweeted that it “strongly” disagreed with his conviction vote.

Romney was awarded the John F. Kennedy “Profile in Courage Award”  for his 2020 impeachment vote and “[defending] the integrity of the [2020 presidential election results] and [opposing] efforts to overturn the decision of the Electoral College.”

Responses

  1. Romney on The stage disrespecting Trump and the crowd is told to respect him and you wonder why the conservatives lost the election?

    1. If a RINO is defined as anyone that believes inciting an insurrection is an impeachable offense, then you are correct, Gerald. If POTUS Biden pulls the same stunt, Romney would vote the same. I am guessing that the entire Republican caucus in BOTH chambers of Congress would then become RINO’s. If President Biden did what Trump did, would YOU not believe inciting an insurrection was an impeachable offense?? THAT would make YOU a RINO.

      1. softy-why do lying POS’S like you keep using the word “insurrection”? Name ONE other “insurrection” in HISTORY that involved UNARMED people? YOU are definitely DRUNK ON THE KOOLAID.

        1. LOL…Now after Betsy gave you the name calling treatment on your opinion of the Chauvin verdict, I thought you would recognize how ineffective it is with adults, Stan.

I also perceived that you possess the common sense to use a dictionary and the enforcement code for the definition of “insurrection” as well as “UNARMED.”

See I can admit it when I am wrong. And it appears that I was WRONG about your possession of common sense. For the record, the definition of insurrection is “a violent uprising against an authority or government.” If you perceive the actions of the mob were NOT VIOLENT, then you were not watching the same videos as were available to the world.
          Definition of violent:
using or involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.

So who is drinking the kool-aid?

      2. Since Trump did NOT incite a riot or “insurrection” or anything other than a peaceful demonstration, your point is moot. Take away the political rhetoric from the facts, and Trump’s words were not only legitimate but welcomed. But now, take Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and several other Democrats’ words…they WERE riot-inciting

      3. There is one big problem with your analogy in that Biden is not the POTUS. He is an interloper and a fraud just keeping the seat warm for the rightful POTUS. The man who actually won the election, Donald J. Trump.

  3. Respect is earned, and you have done nothing to earn our respect. You have no love of America, you proved that in your run against Obammy. Had you be interested in America and not the swamp you would have been in your reelection mode, instead President Trump who had a complete love of America, and the American people, proved his dedication to the people and not the swamp. You on the other hand supported this fraud election, that was stolen from the real winner. Nobody, absolutely nobody believes this talking idiot won the election.

  4. Yes, Mitt – we’re embarrassed. Of you. Of the fact that we voted for you against Obama – should have voted for Freddie the Freeloader. The amazing thing is not that you were booed – but that you were invited to speak at the convention. Here’s a hint: don’t run again; for anything. You do not belong in the Republican party. Or anywhere else, for that matter.

  5. Yes, Mitt, they are embarrassed. Embarrassed of YOU! And so am I, I voted for you. Had I known then, what I know now, I would have not voted at all, in 2012. The only choice then, was two democrats.

    1. you think everything deserves a good spanking Joyce because you love getting them so much, but that ain’t everyone’s kink. Shame on you, & Mitt Romney is nothing but a loser that’s it a proven loser that Utah is ashamed of electing.

    1. WHAT happens in 2022 that would affect Biden’s EO’s or Senator Romney? Both have terms that extend to Jan. of 2025. Can you honestly claim that Trump getting out of the JCPOA was an intelligent move?

      1. Yes, we can claim that because it was a stupidly drafted agreement in the first place and gave us no rela protection from their continued uranium enrichment, nor from working on nukes to perfect everything else about them. In the agreement or out of the agreement made no tangible difference what-so-ever as far as Iran was concerned, yet it cost us billions fo dollars.

      2. Deflecting Phyllis strikes again!

“Trump getting out of the JCPOA was an intelligent move?”

        But to answer her question

Some reports suggest that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “Iran Lied” presentation influenced the withdrawal.[29][30] A little more than a week after Netanyahu’s presentation, Trump announced that the U.S. would withdraw from the deal.[31][30] He announced the withdrawal during a speech at the White House on May 8, 2018, saying, “the heart of the Iran deal was a giant fiction: that a murderous regime desired only a peaceful nuclear energy program.”[32] Trump added that there was “definitive proof that this Iranian promise was a lie. Last week, Israel published intelligence documents — long concealed by Iran — conclusively showing the Iranian regime and its history of pursuing nuclear weapons.”[32] According to Trump’s secretary of state Mike Pompeo and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the agency tasked with verifying and monitoring Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA, Iran has been in compliance with the JCPOA and there is no evidence otherwise.[33][34][35][36] According to David Makovsky, a Middle East scholar at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Iran was not in compliance, because under the deal’s terms Iran was supposed to reveal all of its research into nuclear weapons, and that based on Netanyahu’s evidence, “it seems clear that they did not.”[37]

Phyllis old wise one here is some more info on JCPOA:
If you do your homework the JCPOA was not a Treaty or an Executive Agreement and was not a signed document. It had a 90 day sunset reevaluation which was to be either re-agreed to or not every 90 days.
Trump had evidence that Iran was not abiding to it so he did not agree to the US agreeing to it again.

        1. If Trump had evidence to the contrary, then please explain WHY Trump signed TWICE to CERTIFY Iran was in compliance with JCPOA.

You do understand that “Netanyahu’s evidence” was that Iran had a nuclear program 2009? The entire world knew that.

          1. Because he was lied to. He never signed anything. It is not an agreement that required a signature.

  6. Mittens didn’t say he was against Trump’s policies. We are seeing in a short time how Joe is ruining the policies that worked.

    1. LOL…. That worked HOW, Mac?
HOW did getting out of JCPOA work? Did Iran sit down and renegotiate a new nuclear deal?
HOW did Trump’s policy of downplaying COVID work? >400,000 Americans died on his watch?
HOW did his trade war with China go? Farm foreclosures skyrocketed despite billions in subsidies to farmers. WHERE is Harley Davidson’s new plant?
HOW did the Child Separation Policy work? He claimed it wasn’t HIS policy, it was Obama’s policy, despite AG Jeff Sessions publicly celebrating the new policy in an announcement in May of 2018. Gvt still unable to locate 628 children’s families.
HOW did the tax cut go? The “$1.8 in new revenue” turned out to be a $1T per yr. deficit.
HOW did photo ops with Kim go? Missile testing continued and nuclear program intact.
HOW did sucking up to Putin policy work? Russian cyberattack of U.S. government agencies.

Get a grip on reality, Mac. Trump’s policies were a bust.

      1. Phyllis since you deflected here is a chance to do it some more.

Enlighten us with your wisdom of the pallets full of cash flown into Iran in the middle of the night during the Obama administration.

  7. The Republican Party should immediately remove him from the Party. He’s a lying RINO snake. Always has been, always will be. I knew his Dad and I’m sure he’s rolling in his grave.

    1. For some reason the people in Utah, Maine and Alaska love lying RINO snakes representing them because they continue to elect them time after time. They really have no right to boo him because theya re the idiots that put him there knowing damn well what he was.

    2. Well, that makes NO sense. If he is not a member of the Republican Party, then the Senate would NOT be 50-50. If you want to CANCEL the Republican Party membership of all SEVEN R’s that voted to convict Trump of inciting an insurrection, then we are looking at 43 Republicans Senators and a much different Senate committee assignments.

I find it impossible to believe that ANY of the 7 R Senators DID NOT BELIEVE inciting an insurrection was an impeachable offense. I actually believe ALL 50 R’s would have voted “guilty” if the POTUS was a Democrat. The remaining R’s would not have needed to put their loyalty oath to Trump above their oath to defend the U.S. Constitution. Can you say that you would disagree?
