The head of a major teachers union is facing mockery for a claim she made about what Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is doing to his opponents.
Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), shared a tweet from the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates.
“BREAKING: Tallahassee Police Department just arrested dozens of peaceful pro-choice protestors at City Hall outside of the Florida Capitol,” the tweet read.
It noted Lauren Book (D), the Senate minority leader in Florida, and Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried were arrested.

Jeremy Redfern, deputy press secretary for DeSantis, shared a screen shot from Wikipedia, which noted the mayor of Tallahassee is a Democrat.

A community note was also added to Weingarten’s tweet, which stated, “Tallahassee Police Department is an agency controlled by the City of Tallahassee. The city commission has a Democratic Party majority and the mayor is a member of the Democratic Party.”
One user named Jason Jones tweeted, “Wait until you find out what your fellow democrats are doing to Trump.”

Meanwhile, the Florida Republican Party wrote, “Thank you [Randi Weingarten] for reminding us that [Florida Dems] are NOT the party of law [and] order.
