White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt went after CNN Friday morning over that she claimed was a “100% Fake News” story.
In the story, the network reported that President Donald Trump was planning a possible turnover in his Cabinet, according to a report on Newsmax.
“This story is 100% Fake News, and the White House repeatedly told this to CNN in the strongest possible terms. Yet they still wrote the story because their ratings are dying so they thrive off drama that does not exist,” Leavitt posted.
“The truth is: President Trump could not be happier with his Cabinet,” she added. “Shame on you, @CNN.”
CNN cited unnamed sources in a report that there maybe changes in the president’s Cabinet.
There is alleged friction inside Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Energy.
CNN reported DHS Secretary Kristi Noem could be replaced because of tension between Noem and her longtime adviser Corey Lewandowski.
The White House countered by stating Trump is satisfied with his Cabinet and CNN’s “wishcasting” shows the network’s hostility toward the administration.
“The Cabinet is not changing no matter how much CNN wishes that it would because it thrives off drama,” Leavitt said.
Senior White House officials called the reports unfounded.
“The president loves Kristi. He loves the job she’s doing,” one official told CNN. The person accused the network of inflating an internal personnel dispute into a Cabinet-in-crisis storyline.
The administration also defended Lewandowski.
A DHS spokesman said Lewandowski “reprimands officials who impede or slow down the administration and undermine the will of the American people.” The official added the American public voted for “Trump’s agenda, not bureaucratic resistance,” per Newsmax.
CNN also speculated that Energy Secretary Chris Wright was slow-walking Trump’s energy initiatives, officials said.
The White House denied that allegation, too.
“Secretary Wright has been working lockstep with President Trump since day one,” spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said, adding oil production is at an all-time high with Trump’s “DRILL, BABY, DRILL” policies.
