White House to Families Impacted by Texas Floods: ‘Trump Loves You, We Are Praying for You’

Rescuers were on Saturday searching for more than 20 girls missing from a riverside summer camp in the US state of Texas, after torrential rains caused devastating flooding that killed at least 27 people -- with more rain on the way. "So far, we've evacuated over 850 uninjured people, eight injured people and have recovered 27 deceased fatalities at this time. Of these 27, 18 are adults, nine are children," said Kerr Country Sheriff Larry Leitha on July 5. (Photo by RONALDO SCHEMIDT / AFP) (Photo by RONALDO SCHEMIDT/AFP via Getty Images)

President Donald Trump extended his condolences to the people affected by the devastating flash floods that hit Texas Hill Country during the July 4th weekend, which left many deceased, injured, and missing.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt gave an update of the tragedy that continues to unfold as rescue efforts press on.

“I want to start by addressing the devastating flash floods in Texas,” Leavitt said. “Moments ago, the Department of Homeland Security provided an update that 91 innocent souls have now perished.”

Leavitt added that everyone at the White House was praying for the families of those that lost their family members and friends.

This included 27 children and adults located at Camp Mystic in Kerr County near the Guadalupe River. Another 11 people are still missing, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

“President Trump swiftly signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, Texas, to ensure our heroic first responders have every resource they need in the relief and recovery efforts,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt added that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also travelled to the area and noted that the Trump administration is working with state and local officials to provide assistance.

Conditions remain dangerous as heavy rain has been forecast, with Leavitt encouraging those still in the area to remain vigilant.

Leavitt also took aim at Democratic leaders and the media who have been critical of the Trump administration’s recent cuts.

“We have seen many falsehoods pushed by Democrats, such as Sen. Chuck Shumer and some members of the media. Blaming President Trump for these floods is a depraved lie, and it serves no purpose during this time of national mourning,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt added that the National Weather Service did its job to the best of its ability, including sending warnings three hours before the flash flooding hit, and taking on extra staff during the entirety of the storms.

“At the time, the administration will be giving the victims and their communities the support they deserve in this tragic time,” Leavitt said. “May God bless the great people of Texas, especially the parents who have lost their children.”

“President Trump loves you. We are praying for you, and he will be travelling to see you later this week,” Leavitt said.
