Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) said she’s committed to being governor until 2026 and will not be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate.

“I have communicated with everyone, including the people of Michigan, that I’m going to stay as governor until the end of my term at the end of 2026,” Whitmer said Monday, per CBS News.

Whitmer’s words come after speculation she was a possible running mate for Harris on the Democratic ticket.

However, Whitmer has said her role in the election will remain the same even though she is on the list of about a dozen individuals being vetted as VP picks.

She said Harris has “a great group of people from whom she’s going to pick her running mate.”

She added she will remain the ground in Michigan as a campaign co-chair.

Whitmer, 52, said she expects Harris will announce her pick “in the next six, seven days.”

Whiter also took umbrage will the notion Harris needs to pick a man as a running mate.

She noted all of the chief executives in Michigan’s government are women.

“Every one of us was told there may be too many women on the ticket,” Whitmer said. “Baloney. We’ve proved that wrong in the swingingest of swing states.”

Whitmer said there’s been a groundswell of support for Harris since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

“We are seeing on the ground a lot of enthusiasm and excitement,” Whitmer said. “People are wanting to be a part of this moment and see the opportunity.”

On Sunday, the campaign said it raised $200 million during the week, and 170,000 new volunteers were brought onboard.
