Ah, Gavin Newsom—California’s own political chameleon. After years of diving headfirst into the shallow end of woke politics, he’s finally decided to admit that maybe, just maybe, his party has taken it a tad too far.
During a delightful chat with CNN’s Dana Bash, he suggested that Democrats focus more on “tabletop issues” like housing costs and childcare, which sounds remarkably like someone just woke up from a five-year nap in a safe space.
Now, it’s interesting to see this sudden shift from the man who championed same-sex marriage and all those wonderfully trendy talking points. Yes, he’s calling for a more culturally “normal” approach, but let’s keep it real—this sounds more like a political strategy than a genuine epiphany.
Newsom is hitting the panic button as the Democrats lose ground and potential voters, realizing that endless discussions about pronouns and identity politics might not exactly win back swing voters struggling with their electric bills.
And speaking of tactical missteps, let’s not overlook his recent blunder that had everyone buzzing.
While trying to connect with his fellow Democrats, he told Atlanta’s black mayor that he was “like you,” but coupled that with a low SAT score and staking his claim to dyslexia. Granted, we should be gentle with our politicians, but come on! That whole “soft bigotry of low expectations” schtick is about as refreshing as a week-old salad.
But kudos to Newsom for at least acknowledging the reality—voters care about bread-and-butter issues. If Democrats want to stay relevant, they’d better start swimming against the woke tide. So grab your surfboards, folks; this political wave might just be changing direction.
