Would-be Trump Assassin Challenges President to Round of Golf: ‘I Win I Get His Job’

TOPSHOT - This screengrab taken from AFPTV on September 16, 2024 shows Ryan Wesley Routh speaking during an interview at a rally to urge foreign leaders and international organisations to help provide humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians and Ukrainian servicemen from Mariupol in central Kyiv on April 27, 2022, amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine. US media said it was Routh, 58, who was arrested after US Secret Service agents "opened fire on a gunman" carrying an AK-47 style rifle near the boundary of Donald Trump's Florida golf course where the former president was golfing on September 15, 2024. Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of plotting to assassinate then-candidate Donald Trump on a Florida golf course has challenged the president to a round of golf.

What are the stakes? If Trump wins, he can execute Routh. If Routh wins, “I get his job,” Routh said in a one-page court filing, per the New York Post.

“A roung [sic] of golf with the racist pig, he wins he can execute me, I win I get his job,” Routh wrote. Routh is representing himself in his federal criminal trial.

“sorry [sic] hillbilly Vance,” the filing added.

Routh, 59, said he wants to “beatdown” the president.

“I think a beatdown session would be more fun and entertaining for everyone; give me shackles and cuffs and let the old fat man give it his worst,” he wrote.

“Carpet is red, isn’ t it, no harm in blood,” Routh added.

Routh is accused of aiming a rifle through the shrubbery along the fence line of Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach as Trump played golf on Sept. 15, 2024.

Routh asked Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case, to “trade me away” to China, Iran, North Korea or Hamas, as part of a prisoner swap.

Routh also likened himself to the fictional George Bailey from “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

He voiced support for anti-Israel college campus protesters. He added Trump has “destroyed the MidEast [sic].”

In the filing, he asked for access to female strippers and a putting green, Fox News reported.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Routh presented about a dozen additional witnesses that he would like to subpoena. This includes Trump himself.

The court already approved four character witnesses for Routh, but he requested several more, including a former romantic partner, to testify on his gentleness.

Routh is in a Miami federal prison. Jury selection is set to begin Monday in a Fort Pierce federal court.

The trial should start on Sept. 11.

He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison if he is convicted.
