The continent shows a clear divide: consumer-focused North Africa leads in fully built EV imports, while East and West Africa emphasize commercial use, local assembly, and battery-swapping networks to support ride-hailing and delivery services.
Africa is pursuing new, coordinated financing architectures to accelerate its food systems and CAADP implementation while leveraging public, private, and concessional funding to attract private investment. Separately, carbon credit financing is expanding access to clean cooking across the continent, lowering upfront costs and supported by billions in commitments and dozens of policies to scale adoption for nearly 1 billion people lacking clean cooking options.
The United Nations General Assembly is set to vote on an Africa-led resolution, backed by the African Union and spearheaded by Togo, urging the use of Equal Earth and other equal-area maps to reflect more accurate continental sizes rather than maintaining the Mercator projection, though it does not ban Mercator. Proponents argue the Mercator distortion downplays Africa and other equatorial regions, and the vote seeks to establish a more proportional global norm across governments, schools, and tech platforms.
