The single peaked at number four in Childs' native Canada and reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks in April 1990. Worldwide, the song entered the top 20 in New Zealand and Sweden and peaked at number 22 on the UK Singles Chart. In April 1990, the single was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipping 500,000 units.
