About Francis Forde
Francis Forde was an Anglo-Irish army officer. Born in Seaforde, County Down, he was the seventh son of Irish parliamentarian Mathew Forde. He entered Trinity College Dublin in 1734 and left with a B.A. in 1738. Pursuing a military career, he was commissioned into the British Army's 39th Regiment of Foot before serving with the Bengal Army in India under Robert Clive during the Carnatic Wars.
