
QatarEnergy Seeks US LNG After Ras Laffan Output Losses
QatarEnergy is pursuing multi-year LNG deals with US producers through 2031 to replace output lost after Iranian strikes damaged Ras Laffan, moving from spot purchases to longer-term contracts and relying on its trading arm to secure about 2–3 mt/y. The disruption, worsened by Strait of Hormuz risks, has accelerated Qatar’s shift to external supplies and investment in US LNG capacity as repairs at Ras Laffan are expected to take three to five years.
