About Hotel
Hotel is a 1965 novel by Arthur Hailey. It is the story of an independent New Orleans hotel, the St. Gregory, and features a number of plots, several of which converge. These plot lines include the management's struggle to regain profitability and avoid being assimilated into the fictional O'Keefe chain of hotels, the racial integration of the hotel, and a hit and run homicide, a hotel burglar, and the day-to-day struggles of a large hotel. The St. Gregory is supposedly based on several hotels, including the Roosevelt Hotel, although the old St. Charles Hotel is also cited as the basis for the novel. The book was briefly a best-seller in 1965.
