About Jonathan Mayhew
Jonathan Mayhew was a noted American Congregational minister of Puritan origin at Old West Church, Boston, Massachusetts. Mayhew vehemently opposed the Stamp Act and other such incursions by the British Parliament. In public, especially through his sermons, he was an outspoken advocate for colonial representation and sovereignty. Because of his unconventional and liberal views Mayhew's ordination was the cause of much controversy among the clergy.
