Dublin Man Convicted of Murder on Suspended Sentence
Derek Boyd, 31, was found guilty of murdering Mark Carroll at his Dublin home in June 2024 while serving a suspended sentence for his sister’s manslaughter. Prosecutors said the stabbing was a calculated, murderous attack, the defense argued it was self-defense, and Boyd fled to the UK after the killing.

About Mark Carroll
Mark Carroll is an Irish former runner who specialised in the 5000 metres. He was the 1991 European junior champion over 5,000m; 2000 European Indoor champion over 3,000m and won a bronze medal in the 1998 European Championships over 5,000m. He competed at two Olympic Games.
