REC’s ₹500 crore tokenized bond draws nearly eight times oversubscription from top banks
REC Ltd issued India’s first pilot tokenized corporate bond under SEBI’s sandbox, raising ₹500 crore with an 8x oversubscription and settling the issue on the same day with listings on NSE and BSE, using RBI’s wholesale CBDC for settlement. The deal, aided by HDFC and ICICI among about 20 institutional buyers, leverages Demat 2.0 and a permissioned distributed ledger to boost settlement speed and transparency, signaling potential deepening of India’s debt markets.
