Philippines warns China may exploit US-South Korea drill cuts
Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro warns that Beijing could exploit cuts to US-South Korea drills to reassert itself in the Indo-Pacific, while Manila has received definite assurances that US commitments to the Philippines remain unchanged. He also notes Manila’s expanding security ties with the US and other partners as tensions in the region persist and cautions about China’s use of influence operations.

About South Korea–United States relations
Diplomatic relations between South Korea and the United States commenced in 1949. The United States helped establish the modern state of South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea, and fought on its UN-sponsored side in the Korean War (1950–1953). During the subsequent decades, South Korea experienced tremendous economic, political and military growth. To date, the United States recognized the ROK as the sole legitimate government of Korea.
