Denmark, Finland Uncover Record Viking Silver Hoards
In Denmark, a backyard dig in Rebild yielded the largest Viking Age silver hoard ever found there, about 18.5 kilograms across roughly 700 pieces, including a runic-inscribed ingot and Anglo-Saxon coins indicating 10th-century burial. In Finland, the Sysmä discovery is the country’s largest Viking Age coin hoard to date, about 4.5 kilograms of coins plus a silver bracelet and other items, buried in two birch-bark containers and potentially containing thousands of coins.

About Viking Age
The Viking Age was the period during the Middle Ages when Norsemen known as Vikings undertook large-scale raiding, colonising, conquest, and trading throughout Europe and reached North America. The Viking Age applies not only to their homeland of Scandinavia but also to any place significantly settled by Scandinavians during the period. Although few of the Scandinavians of the Viking Age were Vikings in the sense of being engaged in piracy, they are often referred to as Vikings as well as Norsemen.
