Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is reportedly open to discussing President Donald Trump’s new peace proposal, despite negative reactions from European leaders.

The Trump administration reportedly proposed Ukraine give up some of its territory in exchange for security guarantees from the U.S. to deter potential future Russian aggression, which many European leaders interpreted as a total concession to Russia. Zelenskyy, however, did not outright reject the idea of such a proposal, telling Army Secretary Dan Driscoll on Thursday that he would be open to negotiating the deal, sources told Axios Wednesday.

Zelenskyy posted on X regarding the meeting Thursday, saying that they “discussed options for achieving real peace.”

Today, during a meeting with the U.S. Secretary of the Army, Daniel Driscoll, we discussed options for achieving real peace, the sequencing of our work and formats for dialogue, as well as new impulses for diplomacy. “The parties agreed to work on the plan’s provisions in a way that would bring about a just end to the war,” Zelenskyy’s office told Axios.

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff attempted to assure Europe and Ukraine that the plan was very much a “live document” and that their perspectives will be taken into account, sources told Axios.

“If people don’t like certain parts of the plan, they should let us know and we will try to find a compromise,” Witkoff reportedly told German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in a call Thursday morning, according to Axios.

Zelenskyy has also been embroiled in a corruption scandal that threatens to undo his grip on power, as the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine launched a probe into Zelenskyy’s business partner who allegedly laundered $100 million from Ukraine’s nuclear energy company and other fraudulent activities.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
