2 Killed in LaGuardia Accident; Airport Remains Closed

An Air Canada Express CRJ-900 sits on the runway after colliding with a Port Authority fire truck at LaGuardia Airport in New York, on March 23, 2026. A plane carrying dozens of people collided with a fire truck on a runway at New York's LaGuardia airport, killing the pilot and co-pilot and causing "serious injuries" to others, authorities said Monday. Due to the crash late Sunday, US aviation authorities halted all flights at LaGuardia, and the port authority said the airport would stay shut until at least 2:00 pm (1800 GMT) "to allow for a thorough investigation." There were 72 passengers and four crew members were on board the Jazz Aviation flight operating on behalf of Air Canada.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with support from the Federal Aviation Administration.

LaGuardia will remain closed until 2 p.m. EDT Monday to allow investigators to gather information needed for the investigation.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of two Jazz employees, and our deepest condolences go out to the entire Jazz community and their families. Air Canada cannot confirm the exact number of injuries or if there are other fatalities at this time,” Air Canada said in a Monday statement on the crash.

“No further details are available at this time; however, Air Canada and Jazz will continue to issue regular updates as information becomes known. Air Canada and Jazz Aviation teams are preparing to make their way to the site and details will be provided through additional statements as soon as possible,” it added.
