New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) wants people in his state to understand the risks of spreading the coronavirus and heed his warnings.

During a press conference on Sunday, Cuomo voiced his frustration at people in New York City who were not practicing social distancing.

“There is a density level in New York City that is wholly inappropriate,” Cuomo said, adding, “You would think it was just a bright, sunny, Saturday. I don’t know what I’m saying that people don’t get.”

He continued:

“I don’t know what they’re not understanding. This is not life as usual. None of this is life as usual. This kind of density — we talk about social distancing – I was in these parks, you would not know that anything was going on.”

“This is just a mistake! It’s a mistake. It’s insensitive. It’s arrogant. It’s self-destructive. It’s disrespectful to other people. And it has to stop, and it has to stop now! This is not a joke, and I am not kidding,” he added.

Cuomo continued to call on officials in the city to take stricter actions and “develop an immediate plan to correct this situation.”

Additionally, he said city officials should make roads available for people to go for walks or runs while making sure they have plenty of space for social distancing. However, he said people should not be having gatherings where they are in close proximity with each other.

Cuomo’s comments come just days after he ordered 100% of non-essential workers to stay home to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
