Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) is trying to show Americans how he would handle a global pandemic if he wins the presidency.
But, an apparent issue with his teleprompter during remarks he delivered on Monday led to widespread mockery after Biden stumbled through a segment of his speech.
During this speech, Biden appeared to lose track of his remarks on the teleprompter and began signaling his staff to let them know something was wrong.
Biden to try to press forward, but he eventually moved on to the next portion of his remarks.
“And, in addition to that, in addition to that, we have to make sure that we, we are in a position that we are, well met me go to the second thing, I’ve spoken enough on that.”

He is helpless without a teleprompter. pic.twitter.com/Glm6O5eclz
You can tell @JoeBiden is speaking from the heart and knows this issues really well by the way he gets completely lost when the teleprompter stops. https://t.co/cP86e7KTgr

Joe Biden just did his official coronavirus response and he screwed it up almost immediately. I guess Joe only knows what to say if his staff puts it in a teleprompter for him. Once the teleprompter went out Joe didn’t know what to do! ?pic.twitter.com/C6tYmg9sRb

And @JoeBiden delivered entertainment, as expected. Someone get the man a teleprompter…followed by a blanket and some soothing applesauce. I am no #Democrat, but even I want them to do better. This is just hard to watch. #coronavirus #COVIDー19 @realDonaldTrump @LifeZette pic.twitter.com/qPw57rz8AL

Despite the snafu, Biden’s campaign argued that his remarks still succeeded in drawing a contrast between President Donald Trump’s handling of the outbreak and how Biden would handle a similar situation.
“My point is not simply that the president was wrong. My point is that the mindset, that was slow to recognize the problem in the first place to treat it with the seriousness it deserved, is still too much a part of how the president is addressing the problem,” Biden said as he sought to draw a distinction from Trump.
He added, “Let me be clear, Donald Trump is not to blame for the coronavirus, but he does bear responsibility for our response. And I, along with every American hope he steps up and starts to get this right.”
