The outbreak of the coronavirus is already having an impact on the economy, and how long the economic downturn will last will is unknown.

However, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says he thinks the economy come “roaring back” once the restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of the virus are lifted.

“I don’t know how long it’s going to take to kill this virus,” Mnuchin said during an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” on Sunday.

He added, “I do know we will kill this virus, and when we do, I have great confidence the economy will become roaring back.”

Mnuchin’s comments come just days after the latest data from the Department of Labor found that unemployment claims soared to 3.3 million, the highest number of claims ever in the United States.

Additionally, President Donald Trump has said that he would like portions of the country to see restrictions lifted by Easter so Americans in some parts of the country can go back to work.

Vice Presiden Mike Pence said that the White House’s coronavirus task force would make a decision this week regarding whether some portions of the country should have restrictions eased.
