President Donald Trump is suggesting Republicans avoid one thing in order to gain momentum against Democrats.

Trump tweeted his opposition to mail-in voting.

“Republicans should fight very hard when it comes to statewide mail-in voting. Democrats are clamoring for it,” Trump tweeted. “Tremendous potential for voter fraud, and for whatever reason, doesn’t work out well for Republicans.”

His comments come shortly after he claimed mail-in voting is “horrible, it’s corrupt,” as IJR previously reported. However, Trump defended his decision to vote by mail in Florida’s primary last month.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi voiced her thoughts on Trump’s opinion of mail-in voting.

“I feel sad that the president doesn’t have confidence that his party cannot convince the American people about a path to go forward,” Pelosi said.

Mail-in voting is becoming more of a priority as the nation works to combat the coronavirus outbreak. Several states have already postponed their primaries. Some fear the November election will be affected.

Despite postponed primaries, some lawmakers are urging Americans to continue to practice democracy, including Former Vice President Joe Biden (D).

Biden acknowledged postponing the November election is not feasible, as IJR previously reported.

“The idea of postponing an election is not possible, it should not happen,” Biden said.

Wisconsin went ahead with its primary after the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down Gov. Tony Evers’ (D) executive order to postpone it. The legislature also rejected a measure to allow an all mail-in election with a time extension for votes to be counted.

Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes (D) joined others in slamming the decision to move ahead with the primary as well.

With the growing number of coronavirus cases spreading across the nation, Trump and governors have put into place measures to mitigate the effects of the outbreak. Social distancing guidelines are set to extend to April 30.
