President Donald Trump is resharing a tweet calling for Dr. Anthony Fauci to be fired.

On Sunday, Trump retweeted a statement from former Congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine who took aim at Fauci. Lorraine made an effort to discredit Fauci’s recent statement admitting earlier response efforts could have decreased the spread of the coronavirus.

“Fauci is now saying that had Trump listened to the medical experts earlier he could’ve saved more lives,” Lorraine tweeted. “Fauci was telling people on February 29th that there was nothing to worry about and it posed no threat to the US public at large.”

Trump retweeted the post saying, “Sorry Fake News, it’s all on tape. I banned China long before people spoke up. Thank you [OANN]”

Trump’s retweet comes just hours after Fauci appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper. During the Easter Sunday interview, the top infectious disease expert in America admitted that fewer Americans may have been affected by the coronavirus if earlier response measures were implemented.

“I mean, obviously, you could logically say that if you had a process that was ongoing and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives,” Fauci said.

“Obviously, no one is going to deny that. But what goes into those decisions is complicated,” added Fauci, who is a key member of the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force. “But you’re right, I mean, obviously, if we had right from the very beginning shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different. But there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then.”

While Fauci believes no one could deny that most would agree earlier guidelines may have greatly changed the projection models of the coronavirus outbreak, Trump supporters aren’t exactly pleased with what that notion suggests.

As of Monday morning, there are more than 555,000 positive coronavirus cases in the United States.
