A new poll suggests voters in multiple states trust governors more than President Donald Trump when it comes to reopening states economies.

The Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey — comprised of responses from voters in swing-states including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and North Carolina — revealed a wide margin of voters who prefer the opinions of governors over the president, according to The Hill.

The poll, conducted on behalf of the advocacy group Protect Our Care, received votes from more than 1,200 respondents in each state.

The poll breakdown found 62% of North Carolina residents trust Gov. Roy Cooper (D) more. Approximately 62% of Pennsylvania residents trust Gov. Tom Wolf (D) more and 56% of Wisconsin residents trust Gov. Tony Evers (D) over Trump.

Despite ongoing opposition and stay-at-home protesters, the poll also found 61% of Michigan residents trust Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D).

Protect Our Care executive director Brad Woodhouse weighed in with his take on the poll and Trump’s presidential leadership.

“What I think we’ve seen is that President Trump can’t bulls**t his way through this pandemic. You have to show genuine competency, genuine leadership, and genuine empathy,” Woodhouse said.

Woodhouse added:

“We’ve focused on the battleground presidential states to make both the policy point about the performance in these states but also the political point that the president might think he’s doing the right thing for his base by attacking these governors, by early on denying them supplies, but all he’s doing is complicating an already tough political situation for himself.”

Additionally, it has been reported that Democratic governors in those background states also carry substantial approval ratings for their handling of the pandemic, having a net 32 points higher than the president. The four governors’ overall approval rate also averages 58%.

A Gallup poll also shows that a majority of Americans trust the economic leadership of their governors.
