Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) is weighing in with her perspective on the possibility of becoming presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s running mate.

During an interview with Politico, Whitmer discussed the reports on the female politicians that could be in line to be Biden’s running mate. But, instead of expressing a desire to be one of the Democratic vice-presidential contenders, the Michigan governor is wondering about something else.

The Michigan governor wonders how difficult it would be to campaign and work as an active lawmaker or run an entire state in the middle of a pandemic.

Whitmer also explained that it is not a position she is lobbying for because, as she says, you can’t campaign to be selected.

“Beats me! I don’t know,” Whitmer said, adding, “I mean, I’m not running for anything. I just know that, you know, you don’t run for that. That is a selection of the top of the ticket, and everyone else should be just busy doing their jobs.”

While Whitmer — who endorsed Biden in early March — confirmed that she had not submitted any documents to Biden’s campaign. However, she spoke highly of Biden and shared details about their working relationship.

“We’re cut from a similar cloth. He loves people. He is, you know, regularly checking in with me about what’s going on here in Michigan, what do we need,” Whitmer said. “I’ve gotten some counsel from him in terms of, you know, just trying to communicate to people what we’re really confronting.”

She went on to name some of the women she believes would be a great fit for the position, including some who have already expressed a desire to work alongside Biden.

“I would include people like Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren and Stacey Abrams and [Minnesota Sen.] Amy Klobuchar and [Florida Rep.] Val Demings,” Whitmer said, adding, “There’s a huge class of highly competent women leaders across this country that would, I think, be fantastic.”

Whitmer also confirmed that she will be an “enthusiastic supporter” of whomever Biden selects.
