The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to endorse federal protections for LGBTQ workers is being praised.
On Monday, the Supreme Court delivered a federal ruling that prohibits workplace discrimination toward gay and transgender employees, as previously reported on IJR.

Now, multiple lawmakers are commending the Supreme Court for their latest ruling amid the fight for justice and equality.
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has released a statement about the ruling, noting that it “is another step in our march towards equality for all.”
“This decision is another step in our march towards equality for all. And while we celebrate this victory today, we know that our work is not yet done. As President, I look forward to signing into law the Equality Act, protecting the civil rights of LGBTQ+ Americans, and championing equal rights for all Americans. Happy Pride!
Multiple other lawmakers including former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), and Sen. Pete Buttigieg (D-Ind.) also shared their reactions in support of the ruling.
In a tweet, Clinton said, “Being who you are shouldn’t be a fireable offense, and today the Supreme Court has affirmed that truth for the LGBTQ community under our laws. It’s a victory for liberty and justice for all.
Like Biden, Clinton also concluded with a statement honoring pride month saying, “Happy Pride.”

Buttigieg also chimed in to commend SCOTUS for ruling against firing people “because of who they are or who they love.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling comes just days after President Donald Trump signed an executive order reversing Former President Barack Obama’s anti-discrimination clause under the Affordable Care Act.
Obama’s order prohibited healthcare discrimination against members of the LGBTQ community. In the wake of Trump’s ruling, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has commended the Supreme Court while criticizing Trump’s ruling.
“This momentous decision is a victory for the LGBTQ community, for our democracy and for our fundamental values of equality and justice for all,” Pelosi wrote.
The top Democrat also noted the challenges Democrats have faced in the fight for equality as she challenged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to “end his partisan obstruction and allow the Senate to vote on this critical legislation.”
“Yet, the Trump Administration continues to advance an outrageous, hateful anti-LGBTQ agenda that risks the health and well-being of countless LGBTQ Americans and their families,” Pelosi said, adding, “In too many places, LGBTQ individuals face continued persecution, harassment, and violence, particularly trans women of color who face a disproportionately high rate of homelessness, HIV, sexual assault and murder.”

She continued, “To finally and fully end LGBTQ discrimination, not just in the workplace, but in every place, last year, House Democrats passed the landmark Equality Act. Now, Leader McConnell must end his partisan obstruction and allow the Senate to vote on this critical legislation.”
