Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) says he believes an investigation into the origins of the Russia probe will not lead to indictments until after the November election.

And according to him, that would be too late.

In a tweet on Monday, Grassley said, “Barr recently said ‘this is the closest we have ever come to an organized effort to push a president out of office ‘ leads me to think Durham [won’t] report any prosecutions til after election so as not influence [the] vote. SAD SAD.”

“IF NO PROSECUTIONS TIL AFTER ELECTIONS SAD SAD//just think Flynn Mueller Impeachment/ The deep state is so deep that [people] get away [with] political crimes/Durham [should] be producing some fruit of his labor,” he added.

Grassley’s tweet refers to U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the beginnings of the Russia probe that was launched late last year.

In a June interview, Attorney General William Barr said that he expected “developments” in the probe sometime in the summer.

“In terms of the future of Durham’s investigation, you know, he’s pressing ahead as hard as he can,” Barr said in an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

He continued, “And I expect that, you know, we will have some developments hopefully before the end of the summer.”

While the investigation expected to continue past the November election, Barr admitted that “what happens after the election may depend on who wins.”

Barr previously said that he did not expect Durham’s probe to lead to investigations of former President Barack Obama (D) or former Vice President Joe Biden, as IJR reported.

“As to President Obama and Vice President Obama, whatever their level of involvement, based on the information I have today, I don’t expect Mr. Durham’s work will lead to a criminal investigation of either man,” Barr said during a press conference in May.

“Our concern over potential criminality is focused on others,” he added.

Additionally, Barr decried what he saw as “increasing attempts to use the criminal justice system as a political weapon.”

He also said that any investigation of President Donald Trump or Biden before would have to be approved by him.

However, during a separate interview with Hugh Hewitt, Barr did not rule out the possibility that other individuals would be indicted. He said, “The idea is you don’t go after candidates.”

He continued, “You don’t indict candidates or perhaps someone that’s sufficiently close to a candidate, that it’s essentially the same, you know, within a certain number of days before an election. But you know, as I say, I don’t think any of the people whose actions are under review by Durham fall into that category.”
