New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is advising young Americans to avoid congregating in large groups in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus across the nation.

During his press briefing on Thursday, Cuomo criticized young Americans for holding large gatherings amid a spike in the number of infections.

“To young people, this is not the time to fight for your right to party,” Cuomo said, apparently referencing the famous Beastie Boys’ song “Fight for your Right.” “I respect your right to party. I fully respect it. I would enshrine it in the state law if you want to know. You have the right to party, but let’s be smart about it.”

He added, “There is an attitude that young people are immune, you are not.”

This is not the first time Cuomo warned against partying in large groups.

During his press briefing on Monday, Cuomo threatened to roll back New York’s reopening if the state’s residents continue to violate social distancing orders by holding parties, as IJR previously reported.

New York is no longer the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, California surpassed New York becoming the state with the most number of coronavirus cases, as IJR previously reported.

Total cases in California rose by 12,112 bringing the total to more than 421,000 with deaths rising by 159.

New York has recorded the most deaths of any state across the nation reaching more than 32,000.

New York has managed to slow the spread of the coronavirus. As of Wednesday, 811 of 69,698 tests came back positive. Hospitalizations fell to 706 and 13 New Yorkers lost their lives.

Today's update on the numbers:

69,698 tests were performed yesterday. 811 tests came back positive (1.16% of total).

Total hospitalizations fell to 706.

Cuomo announced in a tweet on June 13, New York will require travelers from coronavirus hot spots to provide their contact information or pay a fine.

The number of coronavirus infections has passed 4 million in the United States and there have been nearly 144,000 deaths.
