Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden indicated on Tuesday he will have made a decision on who his running mate will be by the end of next week.

During his Build Back Better event in Wilmington, Delaware, a reporter asked Biden if he was still targeting early August as the timeframe for his vice presidential pick and if he will be able to meet with them in person amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m going to have a choice in the first week in August and I promise I’ll let you know when I do,” Biden said.

Biden was pressed on whether he will meet with them face to face.

“Well, we’ll see,” he said.

There are several women under serious consideration for his running mate including Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Rep. Val Demings (D-Fl.), former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (D), as IJR previously reported.

Biden has faced pressure by some to select a Black woman as his running mate.

During an interview on MSNBC on July 20, Biden was pressed on whether he will be selecting a Black woman as his vice president, as IJR previously reported.

Biden responded, “I am not committed to naming any but the people I’ve named, and among them, there are four Black women.”

He promised his administration will “look like America” from his running mate to other major positions.

The former vice president will officially accept the party’s nomination at the Democratic National Convention, which will be held from August 17-20.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll, Biden leads Trump by 8 percentage points in support among registered voters.

The poll also indicates Biden is garnering support from voters who are undecided.
