New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is hitting back at President Donald Trump as the governor is offering words of “advice.”

The Democratic governor took to Twitter on Tuesday with a few tips for the president. Cuomo advised Trump to “stop digging” when faced with criticism over his handling of the coronavirus. He also urged the president to face the truth about the virus.

Cuomo tweeted, “Advice to the President: 1) When you are in a hole stop digging. The virus is real and spreading. Do your job on COVID. 2) Stop lying. You can’t play Americans for fools. The truth is defeating you.”

2) Stop lying. You can’t play Americans for fools. The truth is defeating you.

Cuomo’s latest remarks follow Trump’s recent reaction to the governor’s blistering virtual speech during the Democratic National Convention. Trump fired back with a tweet targeting Cuomo, as previously reported on IJR.

At the time of the convention, Cuomo criticized the president’s leadership over the last several months as he verbalized his disapproval of Trump’s handling of the pandemic and race relations in the United States.

“Our nation is in crisis, and in many ways, COVID is just a metaphor,” the governor said. “A virus attacks when the body is weak and when it cannot defend itself. Over these past few years, America’s body politic has been weakened.”

Cuomo also expressed concern about the layers of divisiveness in the United States. According to Cuomo, the last several months have taught Americans “a critical lesson.”

He said, “Americans learned a critical lesson — how vulnerable we are when we are divided and how many lives can be lost when our government is incompetent.”

But despite the criticism from Cuomo and other Democratic leaders and lawmakers, Trump has defended his actions and handling of the coronavirus at every turn as the pandemic continues to spread in states across the country.
