First Lady Melania Trump took to the podium during the second night of the Republican National Convention to remind Americans to take note of the past while looking forward to what is ahead for the nation amid racial unrest.
Trump told Americans while there may be disagreement, they are all united as one nation.
“Like all of you, I have reflected on the racial unrest in our country. It is a harsh reality that we are not proud of parts of our history. I encourage people to focus on our future while still learning from our past,” Trump said.
She added, “We must remember that today we are all one community comprised of many races, religions, and ethnicities.”

Trump recognized America’s “diverse” and “storied” history is what strengthens the nation. She called on Americans to look at things from “all perspectives” and urged Americans to protest peacefully.
“I also ask people to stop the violence and looting being done in the name of justice and never make assumptions based on the color of a person’s skin,” Trump said.
Protests continued to intensify after Jacob Blake, a Black man, was shot in the back several times at point-blank range by officers with the Kenosha Police Department in Wisconsin on Sunday evening, as IJR previously reported.
After the shooting, protesters took to the street and marched toward the Kenosha County Public Safety Building.
According to reports, protesters set several dump trucks on fire, smashed cars, and broke windows.
While protests continue to erupt across the nation, the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on Americans.
Trump also spoke to those affected by the coronavirus during her speech.

“My deepest sympathy goes out to everyone who has lost a loved one and my prayers are with those who are ill or suffering. I know many people are anxious and some feel helpless,” Trump said.
She continued, “I want you to know you’re not alone. My husband’s administration will not stop fighting until there is an effective treatment or vaccine available to everyone. Donald will not rest until he has done all he can to take care of everyone impacted by this terrible pandemic.”
