Actor John Cusack is not holding back on his critique of President Donald Trump regarding the art of politics, mostly because he believes his actions are comparable to those of Adolf Hitler.
In an interview on WTF with Marc Maron, Cusack revealed why he believes Trump’s strategies are similar to Hitler’s.
“Hitler sort of stole from the avant-garde left,” Cusack said.
He added, “He hated the message of the avant-garde left because it was anti-war, coming from World War I, but he understood that politics was the new art and that art and politics were going to be infused. You can see Trump doing the sort of the same thing.”
Cusack accused Trump of practicing “kistch futurism.”
He explained, “He’s saying, ‘I’m going to make America great and the future’s going to be a return to the past. Now, it’s a past that never existed. I’m lying. Everything I say is a lie.'”
Maron told Cusack Trump is “really good at fascist theater” and cited signing ceremonies as an example.
Cusack pointed to Trump’s rallies as evidence of fascism.
“He compares immigrants, people of color, or people protesting to vermin and cockroaches. That’s very specific, purposeful things,” Cusack said.
He added, “You know, ‘These human beings are pestilence, they’re subhuman, they should be eradicated.'”
Cusack stressed, “The first time he tore a child away from their mother’s arms and put them in a cage, like this wasn’t a reality TV show anymore. This is like real fascism.”
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden similarly told MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle Trump is “sort of like” the Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.
He also compared Trump to Fidel Castro.
“I think people see very clearly the difference between me and Donald Trump,” Biden said.
He added, “Trump is clearing protests in front of the White House that are peaceful, you know, with the military. This guy is more Castro than Churchill.”
