If President Donald Trump comes up short in the presidential election, there is some speculation about his post-presidency plans.

Former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney thinks his former may consider another presidential run in the 2024 presidential election.

During a webinar hosted by the Dublin think tank, the Institute for International and European Affairs, he asked, “After this election is over, who is the leading Republican candidate for 2024?”

“And I think now, folks are starting to realize, ‘Wait a second, if Donald Trump loses he might be the guy.’ And I’m telling you absolutely. I would absolutely expect the president to stay involved in politics. I would absolutely put him on the shortlist of people who are likely to run in 2024. He doesn’t like losing,” he added.

In an interview on CNBC on Thursday, Mulvaney said that he expects there will be a peaceful transfer of power if the president loses the election.

“If the process runs and I expect it to run, and at the end of the process Joe Biden’s the president, you can absolutely guarantee a peaceful transition of power,” Mulvaney said.

His comments come as Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden appears to be on the cusp of winning the presidency.

As of 4:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, Biden has 253 electoral votes, just 17 short of the write 270 electoral votes. If he maintains his lead in the remaining battleground states of Arizona and Nevada, he will win the election.
