Former top U.S. cybersecurity official Chris Krebs is expressing his frustration with threats made against election workers.

“There really aren’t good words to describe just how un-American and undemocratic it is that the actual individuals that are responsible for the process of this most sacred democratic institution of elections are the ones that are getting the blowback here,” Krebs told The Washington Post.

He explained the situation is “chilling” to him because the threats are “actively undermining” confidence in elections.

Krebs argued it is going to be difficult to recruit election workers moving forward “if they think they are going to get death threats online and in person.”

He urged both sides of the aisle to condemn threats made against election workers.

“This has got to stop. It has to stop. We have to let the professionals do their jobs and it’s well beyond time for everyone on both sides of the political spectrum to call for an end and to call for… our certification process and moving on into the next administration,” Krebs said.

Krebs received a threat from one of President Donald Trump’s campaign lawyers, as IJR previously reported.

Joe diGenova said on “The Howie Carr Show,” Krebs “should be drawn and quartered. Taken out at dawn and shot.”

During his appearance on “Today,” Krebs was asked about pursuing legal action following diGenova’s threat.

“We’re taking a look at all of our available opportunities,” Krebs said.

The president fired Krebs last month for making “highly inaccurate” claims about the election, as IJR previously reported.

Krebs said there “is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.”

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters Wednesday the Trump administration does not approve of the threats made against election workers.

“We condemn any threats against anyone. There is no place for violence. What I will say though, too, is that the president’s lawyers, they were doxxed by a left organization, their private information put out,” McEnany said.

She continued, “So we’re seeing that happen to people on both sides of the argument and there’s no place for that ever anywhere.”
