Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is advising President Donald Trump to focus more on the COVID-19 vaccine rather than his efforts to overturn the election.

CNN’s Jake Tapper noted during his interview with Romney on Sunday that Trump reportedly held a meeting with former national security adviser Michael Flynn to discuss the possibility of declaring martial law.

He is allegedly considering appointing Sidney Powell as a special counsel to investigate her unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud.

Tapper said Trump is also mulling the possibility of issuing an executive order to seize voting machines.

He asked Romney for his response and what Senate Republicans will do to make sure none of it happens.

“Well, it’s not going to happen. That’s going nowhere and I understand the president is casting about, trying to find some way to have a different result than the one that was delivered by the American people,” Romney said.

He added, “But it’s really sad in a lot of respects and embarrassing because the president could right now be writing the last chapter of this administration with a victory lap with regards to the vaccine.”

He argued Trump could be “championing” this “extraordinary success.”

Romney continued, “Instead, he’s leaving Washington with a whole series of conspiracy theories and things that are so nutty and loopy that people are shaking their head wondering what in the world has gotten into this man.”

The president issued a tweet on Sunday to claim he has not discussed the idea of using martial law.

“Martial law = Fake News. Just more knowingly bad reporting!” Trump wrote.

Vice President Mike Pence said during a campaign event in Georgia to support Sens. David Perdue (R) and Kelly Loeffler (R), “I know we’ve all got doubts about the last election.”

He continued, “That’s why we’re gonna keep right on fighting.”
