President Donald Trump is calling on Gov. Brian Kemp (R) to resign for refusing to acknowledge him as Georgia’s winner in the presidential election.

“[Brian Kemp] should resign from office. He is an obstructionist who refuses to admit that we won Georgia, BIG! Also won the other Swing States,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning.

Georgia recertified its election results earlier this month confirming President-elect Joe Biden won the state after Trump requested a recount.

During a campaign event for Democratic Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, Biden joked he felt like he won “Georgia three times,” as IJR previously reported.

He continued, “I have to say it feels pretty good. You know… I think all of you just taught Donald Trump a lesson. In this election, Georgia wasn’t going to be bullied. Georgia wasn’t going to be silenced. Georgia certainly wasn’t going to stand by and let Donald Trump or the state of Texas, or anyone else come in here and toss out your votes.”

In late November, Trump took aim at both Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) for the way the state handled the election, as IJR previously reported.

During an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, he said of Raffensperger, “Everything has to be approved by the legislature, and they had judges making deals, and they had electoral officials making deals like this character in Georgia who’s a disaster.”

Trump went on to criticize Kemp, “And the governor’s done nothing. He’s done absolutely nothing. I’m ashamed that I endorsed him.”

Kemp dismissed Trump’s call to “overrule” Raffensperger on signature matching requirements.

A spokesperson for Kemp, Cody Hall, said in a statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “Georgia law prohibits the governor from interfering in elections. The Secretary of State, who is an elected constitutional officer, has oversight over elections that cannot be overridden by executive order.”
