President-elect Joe Biden is calling on the Senate to hold impeachment proceedings while tackling other issues currently facing the nation.

“Today, the members of the House of Representatives exercised the power granted to them under our Constitution and voted to impeach and hold the president accountable. It was a bipartisan vote cast by members who followed the Constitution and their conscience. The process continues to the Senate,” Biden wrote in a statement on Wednesday.

He added, “The nation also remains in the grip of a deadly virus and a reeling economy. I hope that the Senate leadership will find a way to deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation.”

The House voted 232-197 to impeach Trump, charging him with “incitement of insurrection,” as IJR previously reported.

Ten Republicans voted to impeach the president.

House Democrats unveiled their article of impeachment on Monday, as IJR previously reported.

“In all this, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government,” the resolution reads.

It goes on, “He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government. He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”

Trump released a statement on Wednesday amid the threat of future violent protests.

“In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind,” Trump wrote.

He continued, “That is not what I stand for, and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers.”

Two U.S. officials announced on Tuesday that some of the National Guard troops helping to secure the area ahead of the inauguration will be armed.
