House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated there is growing support among members of Congress to establish a 9/11-style commission to investigate the attacks on the U.S. Capitol.

During her press conference on Friday, Pelosi announced Lt. General Russel Honoré (Ret.) would be leading a review of Capitol security.

“I have asked retired lieutenant general Russel Honoré to lead an immediate review of security infrastructure, interagency processes, and command and control,” Pelosi said.

She added, “The general is a respected leader with experience dealing with crises.”

Pelosi noted he is the former Vice Director for Operations, J-3, with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“His focus was military support to civilian authorities… and he has experience with the National Capital Region’s security,” she said.

Pelosi explained, “House leadership has worked with General Honoré, seen up close and personal his excellent leadership at the time of Katrina.”

Pelosi said members of Congress are moving forward with “strong oversight from committees” to conduct an after-action review.

“There is strong interest in the Congress in a 9/11-type commission, an outside commission, to conduct that after-action review. In the meantime, I’m very grateful to General Honoré for taking on this responsibility,” she continued.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Tuesday the agency is looking into several felony cases related to the riots, as IJR previously reported.

“The FBI working with the U.S. Attorney’s offices across the country and the crux of those being in D.C., we’re looking at significant felony cases tied to sedition and conspiracy,” acting U.S. Attorney for Washington D.C. Michael Sherwin said during a briefing.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said during a briefing at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) headquarters in Washington, D.C., “We are seeing an extensive amount of concerning online chatter… about a number of threats surrounding the inauguration.”
