Netflix released a statement describing the premise of the show.
“With the help of friendly new faces like the supermarket owner, Mrs. Obama, and a magical flying shopping cart as their guide, Waffles and Mochi blast off on global ingredient missions, traveling to kitchens, restaurants, farms and homes all over the world, cooking up recipes with everyday ingredients alongside renowned chefs, home cooks, kids and celebrities,” the statement reads, according to CNN.
Netflix announced in 2018 the Obamas struck a “multi-year agreement” with the company to produce documentaries, films, and a variety of different series.
“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” former President Barack Obama said in a statement at the time.
He added, “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix – we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”
In November of 2020, the Obamas announced they would be producing a comedy series loosely based on a book that details the events after Trump was elected in 2016.
