President Joe Biden is urging those “who represent the world’s largest economies” to come together and combat climate change.

Speaking from the White House during a virtual climate summit with 40 world leaders, Biden vowed the United States is setting out “on the road to cut greenhouse gasses in half by the end of this decade.”

He continued, “That’s where we’re headed as a nation and that’s what we can do if we take action to build an economy that’s not only more prosperous but healthier, fairer, and cleaner for the entire planet.”

Biden predicted the steps being taken would lead America down a path of net-zero emissions no later than 2050. He noted the United States represents less than 50% of the world’s emissions.

Watch his remarks below:

Biden pledged that the U.S. will cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least half from 2005 levels by 2030:

“No nation can solve this crisis on our own, as I know you all fully understand. All of us, particularly those of us who represent the world’s largest economies, we have to step up,” Biden said.

He added, “Those that do take action and make bold investments in their people, in clean energy future, will win the good jobs of tomorrow and make their economies more resilient and more competitive.”

Additionally, Biden called the initiative a “moral imperative, an economic imperative” and “a moment of peril but also a moment of extraordinary possibilities.”

He argued, “We really have no choice. We have to get this done.” The president also mentioned his more than $2 trillion infrastructure and climate proposal.

Biden’s infrastructure proposal includes funding for electric vehicles to improve air quality, reduce congestion and limit greenhouse gas emissions.

The proposal also calls for $174 billion as an investment in the electric vehicle market. Fifty thousand diesel transit vehicles would be replaced and 20% of yellow school buses would be electrified.
