CNN’s John Berman is blasting House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for going back and forth on his view of former President Donald Trump’s involvment in the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6.
“Kevin McCarthy added a new chapter to revisionist history. Or tried to erase a chapter of actual history. Or maybe he just made stuff up,” Berman said during “New Day” on Monday.
During an appearance on Fox News on Sunday, McCarthy claimed he “was the first person to contact [Trump] when the riots were going on. He didn’t see it. When he ended the call [he] was telling me he would put something out to make sure to stop this. And that’s what he did, he put a video out later.”
The CNN host showed a scene from the movie “Home Alone” comparing McCarthy’s comments to “Home Alone” character Kevin McCallister’s scream.

Berman continued to rail against McCarthy for claiming he was the first person to tell Trump about the riots.
“To believe this, you have to buy into the notion that no one in the White House staff, no one in the intelligence community, no one in the world, including the MyPillow guy, told the president a riot was happening a mile and a half away,” Berman said.
He continued, “What tears it, the notion that Donald Trump didn’t see it … When we know what he does more than anything else is watch TV. It’s his superpower. TiVo is his tesseract.”
Continuing to mock McCarthy, Berman pointed out the minority leader once took issue with Trump’s video addressing the riots.
“To recap, Kevin McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Kevin McCallister,” Berman said.
He explained, “Going back to the video McCarthy is now all of a sudden so proud of, that thing doesn’t so much as condemn the insurrectionists as glorify them.”
Concluding his segment, Berman claimed the difference between McCarthy and McCallister is the Home Alone character “learned from his mistakes, this one just tries to erase the historical record of them.”
