Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is swatting down a counterproposal by Republican lawmakers to President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan.

Though the president has proposed a $1.7 trillion infrastructure plan, a group of Republicans countered with a $928 billion offer on Thursday. The counteroffer includes, in part, $506 billion toward roads and bridges, $98 billion to public transit, $65 billion to broadband, and $56 billion to airports.

Reacting to the counteroffer, Warren appeared on MSNBC where she said, “I don’t really think this a serious counteroffer,” adding, “I’m not hearing about the green infrastructure” such as moving schools buses and mass transit to electric.

“Notice who gets left behind: the women,” Warren argued, adding that “millions” of women are out of the workforce and that there is a lack of childcare amid the coronavirus pandemic.

She also said, “Remember, this is called a jobs bill — it’s infrastructure and jobs.” (for copy editor- 1:28)

Sen. Shelley Capito (R-W.V.), along with Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), and Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), introduced their counteroffer to the president’s plan, which Capito says “delivers on what President Biden told us in the Oval Office” during their previous meeting.

“What we are looking at today is a $928B package over 8 years,” Capito said on Thursday. “It sticks to the core infrastructure features … It’s a serious effort to reach a bipartisan agreement.”

Additionally, Barrasso said, “This is a real offer … This proposal is fully paid for. It does not need to have any raises in taxes, and avoids the big threat to the economy right now which is inflation.”
