ABC News’ Jon Karl is accusing the Biden administration of attempting to spin the crisis in Afghanistan, calling it a “disaster.”

During “This Week” Sunday, the network’s Martha Raddatz pointed out that President Joe Biden and his top national security advisors were “making this sound like a smashing success” before the Kabul airport bombing.

Karl responded, “They have been describing something that isn’t reality. This has been an incredible airlift, more than 100,000 people evacuated, but what a disaster. Clearly, Thursday was the worst day of the Biden presidency, and we don’t really know, Martha, how bad it really is.”

He continued, “The big question is, does Afghanistan once again become a safe haven for terrorist attacks on U.S. interests around the world or at home?”

Karl suggested that “maybe part of the reason why Afghanistan had not been such is there was a military presence in Afghanistan, but now we will have this over the horizon capability. But the bottom line is the terror threat has increased and our ability to combat it has decreased.”

A reporter attempted to ask Biden about the situation in Afghanistan during a trip to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) headquarters on Sunday, as IJR reported.

He responded, “I’m not going to answer Afghanistan now.”

The president visited Dover Air Force Base on Sunday to honor the 13 U.S. service members who were killed by a suicide bomber near the Kabul airport.

He said in a statement, “The 13 service members that we lost were heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our highest American ideals and while saving the lives of others.”

Biden continued, “Their bravery and selflessness has enabled more than 117,000 people at risk to reach safety thus far.”

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley joined Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for the tribute.
