Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) says he will not seek reelection in 2022.
Kinzinger, who has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and his unfounded claims of widespread election fraud, announced his decision in a video shared on Twitter.
“Looking forward to the next chapter!” he wrote.

The Illinois Congressman was appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“Let me be clear, I’m a Republican dedicated to conservative values, but I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution — and while this is not the position to be in or sought out, when duty calls, I will always answer,” Kinzinger said announcing his decision to join the panel.
He added, “Today, I was asked by the Speaker to serve on the House Select Committee to Investigate January 6th, and I humbly accepted. I will work diligently to ensure we get to the truth and hold those responsible for the attack fully accountable.”
Kinzinger is one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump on the charge of incitement of insurrection.
Rep. Anthony Gonzalez’s (R-Ohio), who also voted for impeachment, announced in September that he would not seek reelection either, as IJR reported.
Kinzinger was facing a primary challenge from former Trump aide Catalina Lauf.
