A pregnant woman and her baby have died after the bombing at a Ukrainian maternity hospital.

Journalists for The Associated Press shot videos and photos after the attack. The outlet reported the woman “was seen stroking her bloodied lower abdomen as rescuers rushed her through the rubble in the besieged city of Mariupol, her blanched face mirroring her shock at what had just happened.”

According to the report, the woman was rushed to another hospital. After realizing she was losing her baby, she could be heard saying, “Kill me now!”

Surgeon Timur Marin discovered that the woman’s pelvis was crushed and her hip was detached, as The Associated Press reported.

He said the baby was delivered via cesarean section, but it showed “no signs of life.”

Marin told the outlet, “More than 30 minutes of resuscitation of the mother didn’t produce results,” adding, “Both died.”

The Associated Press noted medics did not have time to get the woman’s name before her body was taken away by her husband and father.

“At least someone came to retrieve her, they said — so she didn’t end up in the mass graves being dug for many of Mariupol’s growing number of dead,” the outlet reported.

Ukraine and Russia resumed talks Monday by videoconference. Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said the talks consisted of “hard discussions.”

He added, “Although Russia realizes the nonsense of its aggressive actions, it still has a delusion that 19 days of violence against peaceful Ukrainian cities is the right strategy.”

Podolyak told The Wall Street Journal “negotiators would focus on achieving a cease-fire, the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops, and security guarantees for the country.”

CNBC reported last week the United Nations said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has killed at least 549 civilians, including 41 children.
