Former MSNBC foreign affairs analyst, Malcolm Nance, is trying to “do something about” Russia’s war on Ukraine by joining Ukrainian forces.

During an appearance on MSNBC, Joy Reid asked Nance to explain why he is there and what he is doing.

Nance noted he spent quite a bit of time in Ukraine in the pre-war period.

“And when the invasion happened, I had friends who were in Donetsk, who were in the Ukrainian army, who were writing to us and telling us, ‘We’re not going to survive tonight. We’ve been hit 500 times,” Nance said.

He told Reid the more he saw the war going on the “more I thought, I’m done talking, alright? It’s time to take action here.”

Nance continued, “So about a month ago I joined the international legion here in Ukraine and I am here to help this country fight what essentially is a war … of extermination.”

Calling it an “existential war,” Nance added, “And Russia has brought it to these people and they are mass murdering civilians, and there are people here like me who are here to do something about it.”

When asked what international troops are tasked with, Nance replied, “We are here for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to protect the innocent people of Ukraine from this Russian aggression.”

An MSNBC spokesperson told Politico’s Max Tani Nance is no longer an analyst for the network.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced Tuesday Moscow is launching another stage of the invasion.

“Another stage of this operation (in eastern Ukraine) is beginning and I am sure this will be a very important moment of this entire special operation,” Lavrov said in an interview, according to Reuters.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a video address, “No matter how many Russian troops they send there, we will fight. We will defend ourselves.”
