The Wall Street Journal explained speculation grew that Musk “planned to approach Twitter shareholders directly to buy their stock at a specific price over a defined period.”
Similarly, over the weekend, Musk tweeted “Love Me Tender,” as IJR reported.
The tweet appeared to be another reference to a tender offer to shareholders.
Investopedia explains the price offered is “usually at a premium to the market price and is often contingent upon a minimum or a maximum number of shares sold.”
According to The New York Times, Musk is hurrying to secure funding for his bid to purchase Twitter.
Morgan Stanley has reportedly been working with Musk on the deal and calling banks and other potential investors to acquire financing.
One source told the Times Musk is looking to put together a offer that is fully funded as soon as this week.
Earlier this week, Musk issued a warning to the Twitter board if he takes over the company, as IJR reported.
“Board salary will be $0 if my bid succeeds, so that’s ~$3M/year saved right there,” Musk tweeted.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) warned he would hold the board accountable over their response to Musk’s efforts to buy the company.
“The state of Florida, in our pension system, we have shares of Twitter,” DeSantis said.
He added, “I didn’t buy it, we have people who run the fund, but nevertheless, it hasn’t exactly been great on returns on investment. It’s been pretty stagnant for many, many years.”
Concluding his remarks, DeSantis said, “To me, I think that’s probably an injury to the fund. So we’re gonna be looking at ways that the state of Florida potentially can be holding these Twitter board of directors accountable for breaching their fiduciary duty.”
