AOC Issues Warning About Republicans Ahead of Midterm Elections

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 07: U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) speaks on banning stock trades for members of Congress at news conference on Capitol Hill, April 07, 2022 in Washington, DC. Lawmakers have introduced the, Ban Conflicted Trading Act, which would prohibit members of Congress and senior staff from purchasing and selling individual stocks or serving on the board of a for-profit company. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) warned if Republicans take back the House of Representatives they would overturn an election.

Ocasio-Cortez said at a town hall meeting Wednesday, “If we lose the House, this is no joke. January 6 was a trial run, and a lot of people don’t seem to understand that.”

She added, “It was a trial run, and they’re going to come back. Here’s the technicality of what happened on January 6: the only reason it wasn’t worse was because Democrats had the House and they didn’t have the votes in the House.”

Ocasio-Cortez suggested if Republicans take back the House, “they have the votes to not authorize and legitimize the presidential election, whatever the results are.”

Last month, Ocasio-Cortez said if the president “does pursue and start to govern decisively using executive action and other tools at his disposal, I think we’re in the game.”

She added, “But if we decide to just kind of sit back for the rest of the year and not change people’s lives — yeah, I do think we’re in trouble.”

Ocasio-Cortez acknowledged the “collapse of support among young people, among the Democratic base, who are feeling that they worked overtime to get this president elected and aren’t necessarily being seen.”

Biden commented on the midterms while delivering remarks at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser at the Portland Yacht Club on Thursday, according to a White House transcript.

“I’m going to need your help again in this off-year election, help making sure that we keep the Senate and keep the House.  I think we can pick up two Senate seats,” Biden said.

Politico suggested the House is “about as good as gone” for Democrats but they could still hold onto the Senate “if things break their way.”

Additionally, the outlet noted Republicans are expected to make gains in governor’s races.
