A petition to remove Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas from the bench has amassed over a million signatures.
The Moveon.org petition is addressed to Thomas, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, and cites the overturning of Roe v. Wade as the driving factor for his removal.
In their description, the petition organizers called the nation’s high court “the right-wing rigged Supreme Court.” They asserted that the court revoked the right to privacy and “bodily autonomy,” when they overturned the abortion precedent.
The petition also cites Thomas’s wife, Ginni Thomas, and her activism within the conservative movement and encouragement of 2020 election challenges.
“Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas—who sided with the majority on overturning Roe—made it clear what’s next: to overturn high court rulings that establish gay rights and contraception rights,” the petition states.
The petition went on to claim that Thomas “has shown he cannot be an impartial justice and is more concerned with covering up his wife’s coup attempts than the health of the Supreme Court.”
As of this writing, the petition has almost 1.2 million signatures and has averaged about half a million signatures a day for the past week.
Included in the list of grievances was Thomas’s vote against the Supreme Court’s decision to compel the release of documents regarding the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riots.
The petition called Thomas’ lack of recusal from the case worthy of “investigation and heightened alarm.”
“He must resign — or Congress must immediately investigate and impeach,” the petition concluded.
In addition to Thomas’ conservative opinions causing frustration among some, he has also been the subject of disinformation, often with little correction.
Thomas is currently the longest-serving justice on the Supreme Court, having served more than three decades on the nation’s high court.
Thomas is the subject of the 2020 book, “Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words.” The book was co-authored by Mark Paoletta, an attorney who served as Assistant Counsel to President George H.W. Bush.
“I was fed up with the continual attacks from Hollywood and other places on Justice Thomas, who I think is our greatest living American and our greatest justice,” Paoletta told Fox News Digital.
